Pendry Chicago Hotel Review
Pendry Chicago is a luxury hotel in the heart of the Chicago loop. Located on famous Michigan Avenue, it’s walking distance to Magnificent Mile, Chicago Riverwalk, Millennium Park, The Art Institute of Chicago and so much more!
Hotel History
If you know anything about my travel style, I typically opt to stay in hotels and resorts with history. Architects, Hubert and Daniel Burnham (their father designed the Flatiron Building in NYC) designed the building for Union Carbide and Carbon Company (developed the first dry cell battery) as their regional office. The building is dubbed the ‘champagne bottle’ hotel due to its look-a-like exterior. Presumably, a nod to the Prohibition Era. Alas, the building was finished in 1929.
Hotel Vibes
Upon arrival, you get moody and modern art deco decor in the hotel lobby. To the left is the entrance to hotel room elevators, concierge desk and a family style table for late night chats. In the middle is the check-in desk with daily fresh brewed tea (so refreshing) and engaging receptionists. To the right is the hotel bar, Bar Pendry. A stunning and intimate space with a double sided fireplace for those snowy days.
Pendry Chicago Suites
I originally booked a two queen room , but with our travel advisor perks we were upgraded to a river view corner suite. Oh, we love the suite life. The space was perfect for me, my sister and her friend who visited us halfway through our trip. Here are some features that stood out to me:
- entrance hall with two full marble bathrooms (one walk in shower and the other shower over bathtub)
- living area with sofa bed
- bluetooth speaker (you need the tunes to jam out when getting ready!)
- nightly turndown service with macaroons
- so many windows!!
The living area has stunning views of the Chicago river and Marina City. We couldn’t help but cheers with our complimentary champagne!
Dining Options
After we soaked in the views from our room, we ordered room service for an early dinner. It was delivered and set up in the living room. Once finished, we clicked the button on the plate, put the tray outside the door and within the hour staff picked it up!
Just when we thought our room had stunning views of the river, we went up to the 24th floor and dined al fresco at Château Carbide. The sushi was fresh and delicious! If you’re looking for a rooftop bar to dine and have drinks at, put this place on your list!
Venteux (French for windy)is their French brasserie and coffee shop. We had breakfast once in their cafe and once in the restaurant. With our travel advisor perks, our breakfast was complimentary! Note, the coffee shop can get really busy. The decor is beautiful, so I can see why it’s an Instagram hotspot.
Hotel Amenities
One of the biggest perks for staying at Pendry Chicago is the house car. It’s included in your daily amenity fee, so I highly suggest taking advantage of it! Pendry has a partnership with Cadillac as their official house car. It will take you from the hotel to your destination as long as it’s within a two mile radius. Although the hotel is walking distance to many popular attractions, we did take advantage of for two restaurants that were a little further out. Note, Cadillac transportation is subject to availability and first come, first serve.
Additional amenities you should know about:
- 24-hour gym featuring Technogym, Peloton and Tonal equipment. If you’re serious about staying on track with your fitness routine, certain rooms include Tonal equipment.
- AIRE Ancient Baths extends priority reservations to Pendry guests as well as complimentary experience add-ons. Don’t forget to take the house car!
